The Shimano Ultegra CS-R8100 cassette is the optimized core of any 12-speed Ultegra drivetrain, designed to elevate road bike performance. This cassette introduces Shimano’s revolutionary Hyperglide+ system, which guarantees smooth shifting during both upshifts and downshifts, even under extreme load. The result is a significant reduction in shift time and a more stable cadence, which is crucial for racing and gran fondos.

What sets the CS-R8100 apart is its construction focused on lightweight design and stiffness. The larger sprockets are mounted on an aluminum spider (carrier) to minimize weight where it counts. This increases stiffness and reduces inertia for faster acceleration. The cassette uses two aluminum sprockets and durable steel for the remaining cogs, ensuring an excellent lifespan without sacrificing performance.

The Ultegra 12-speed cassette is available in optimized gear ratios like 11-30T and 11-34T. The 11-34T variant offers a wide range that is ideal for steep climbs without switching to an MTB component. Although the design features 12 gears, the CS-R8100 fits the traditional Shimano HG freehub body (with specific cog placement). For the best shifting performance, combining it with the CN-M8100 or CN-M9100 12-speed chain is recommended.
